Fractured Man

Marble/Calcite
8x6x23"
The sculpture
started with the orange calcite torso. Because of the intensity
of the stone, the bottom needed to be white. The stone I had was
fractured and I decided to go ahead and carve it, knowing that
if it fell apart I would create something else out of it. It stayed
together, proving itself to be strong but none the less fractured..thus
the name. I cut the marble piece into two parts and created the
head last. I love the way the realistic part of the face is hidden
behind this abstract shape. The raw marble sparkles and creates
a contrast to the finsihed surface of the torso.
